coach hire: 2,330,000 results (591,000 competitors) that's an east one.

I'd say coach hire is a fairly easy one

If all the generic directories are coming up on page 2 then you have a real fighting chance

Go for it

PS: You may want to target locally - if your coaches are from (say) london, then target "london coach hire" etc -- now that's even easier

Hey guys,

Firstly I just want to say thanks for all the good advice!!

What I think I have learnt is that it doesn't happen overnight. I am in the very competative industry of IT so I dont think I am ever going to be high in listing for terms like "IT support." Not only do I have to compete with the sites that provide support I also have to compete with the sites that have IT support jobs etc.

FISICX thanks for the link to the SEO document. "printed and read" But I think I will have to read it again and again maybe.

Q for everyone: How am I supposed to get good inbound links to my site if nobody know about it???

Be popular!

You can write and publish articles. Or use forums posts to refer to your articles (without spamming or self-promoting).

Become an expert.

Get your site added to the site of companies you have worked with.

You can try directories but the SEO value is almost nil.

But if you write interesting and relevant content, people will find you and link to you.

But do you want to be known for IT support? Why not target local companies - ask for an interview and offer a discount. Put an advert in the local paper. Do the church for free. Try running an IT support course at the local college. In other words, make yourself known locally and the referrals will follow.

And get on to the forums. Begin here, be ready to offer advice when asked. Join other simialr forums and become known for your sage advice and people will follow your signature to see if your site mirrors what your say.

You haven't gone into any detail as to what it is for but to me £1850 is a fair price for search engine optimisation. Take a look at the prices on my site for a guide. I hate displaying prices as it always comes down to budget and at the end of the day and I guess the main reason I do it is to deter the people who want the eartj for £99!

I'd say SEO is rocket science.
Yep I have to agree, with the way search engines change to weed out the spammers, you could spend all day just reading and learning.

I have been spending hours and hours researching SEO, and I'm in the business of website building so I've had plenty of websites to try out different things on.

I think that quote you got is pretty high, they aren't really offering that much. $850 would be closer and even then, I suppose it depends on the size of the website.

The key to search engine rankings is not doing a big blast, and then forgetting about it, it's doing all sorts of things at a steady rate, month after month, which of course is great if you have the time.

My star website for optimisation is one that sells gemstones and jewellery. I just checked the visitors for

Jan 06 was 1809 with 415 different keyphrases used to find the site.

Jan 07 and the site had 5748 visitors with 1477 different keyphrases.

The page rank is only 4, but it doesn't seem to matter, it's being made up for by the keyphases,

So thats a little over 3 times as many visitors, and about 3 times the different keyphases.

I have concentrated on not getting just any visitors, I wanted visitors that would buy.... the owners just gave me a bonus equal to what they paid me last year. I'm really jazzed about. And doubled the hours I do a month.

I have worked on that website for 2 hour's every other month using various SEO techniques. (actually it's a bit more than 2 hours, but I get carried away )

I've decided I'm going to just do SEO, they reckon that the happiest people in the world are the ones work doing what they love... anyway enough bragging... the morel of the story is, do it often, and if you don't have the time or the knowledge pay someone to do for you.

Holy cow, I just realised that the price was £ and not USD, worked out what £1850 is in New Zealand $$. Man thats way outpriced. can read what they said they would offer, but whatever it was it's far to much.

Sorry about another post, I can't see how to edit my last post, I meant to say in the last sentence, I can't see what they offered, but I have looked now, and they don't offer much at all, are you sure thats all?

How long did they estimate they would take to do this work?

If you want to do blackhat SEO, right, but else just deliver good content, then you can be pretty sure not to be weed out, and therefore can save the time learning how to not get weed out for spamming.

Logical?

Logical.

(I think so )
