£1850 does this sound right for SEO

Hi everyone

I have tried a little SEO and it just seems endless. So I made the decision to get a quote for the work to be done by a third party.

The price includes:-

website analysis
keyword research

content tweaking for previously researched keywords
revising title tags and meta tags
validating the HTML code
basic consultancy

submitting to free general and UK based directories (55 to 60)
submitting to paid directories (35)

total £1570 + vat

So around the £1850 mark when you include the VAT.

This company has come recommended.

Do I need to submit to the paid directories to gain a good position in google and other search engines? This is a new site with very few inbound links!!!

sounds a little expensive, but if you know the keywords you are targeting and have your pages set up , you can get someone to submit to the directories for around $40

It will give you a minor boost - try article writing as well

Rather than posting a request like this on a Saturday morning then chasing it up 13 minutes later when you haven't had a response I would suggest that you wait until Monday when people are back at work and more liable to be looking at the forum

This is a waste of money. You could do it yourself for free and make a much better job of it.

As to the rest, most of it you could do yourself in a few minutes.

content tweaking for example just means rewriting your copy and validating yout HTML may affect your ranking by about 0.1% - ie: almost nothing.

You can't add SEO onto an existing site without revisiting the site and document structures. You need to read this article. And then go back and make sure you are clear about the aim of your website.

To be honest, it depends on the site and it's complexity.

You didn't mention how big the site is, for four pages it sounds a lot

If it's for the site in your profile, it's waaaay to much.

IMHO, SEO Companies are redundant.

Onpage SEO is not a science. Not justifiable. Do the most important 20% and achieve 80% effect.
And the more effect you get by backlinks. That are due to your ranking in the Search engines. "Backlink is king". You get good backlinks when you deliver.
When you have a great website, everyone will link deliberately to you.
Submitting to directories or buying links can help you, but also can hurt you.
Get some natural good links and you might not fall into the google sandbox. Buy some links and if google knows it, then they will penalize you.

If you want to spend much money, then I would spend it for some great content, articles that you can post, or a ebook that you can givaway to make a viral buzz about your site. Only a encouragement.

SEO is a jungle at the moment. There are lots of money to be made because everyone wants to be on Google, so naturally prices go up.

To be honest with you SEO is easier to learn than HTML, it is not exactly Rocket Sience!

I'd say SEO is rocket science. For instance, have you ever tried to get something to rank for a really competitive term? As someone who works in SEO, I can tell you it really can be seriously hard.

For instance, tell me what you'd do to rank for the term coach hire. Because I can tell you right now, meta tags and a few links aren't going to cut it.

More than that, you need to be an expert in writing copy, to make sure that people click through on your SERL. There's no point being no. 1 if everyone clicks on no. 3
