Backlinks through articles

hello guys,

i asked peter a question about backlinks and articles and he promtly replied. i thought this would be helpful for you also, so here is the PM i sent peter!

Hi
I am really glad you liked the videos
I would suggest you wait a while. Sometimes search engines do massive crawls, then they don't do anything for weeks (whilst they use that computer power to re-jog their indexes)
If they don't show in a couple of weeks, drop me a line - also - you are better off just posting excellent questuions like this in the forum so others can see the responses
(perhaps you can cut and paste in ...)

one question i have really bugs me though! im writing articles and use submission software (IAS). my articles got posted on almost 1000 sites (thats what yahoo says) and i have my link in the resource box with anchor text but im not seeing any links to my site. when i check those articles my links are included in them but when i do a link check i dont have any (or maybe 1-2) backlinks!
now i just posted those articles, so they are fairly new but the already are found in the search engines, just my backlinks are not showing up!
it would be awesome hearing your advice!
best regards,
Domenik

FYI, the videos are the link in my sig - an absolute steal at the moment - a real rock bottom price....

anyhow, links should show up for articles, although everyone is doing this these days

as bots take time to trawl the internet for all this stuff, give them time to find them and index them

it;s a good way to get links. And if you can get 10 links then that is great

build links to your sites slowly but surely (natural)

The majority of the free article banks don't make the links active, too.
There are about 50-100 article banks that do make the links active, though.

I'd suggest improving the quality of your articles and trying offering them for publication in your industry online journals (and maybe offline). This will not only get you a valuable link from a reputable website, but some targeted traffic as well.

This isn't easy, but the harder you work, the more you get.

Of course the other thing to consider is where you are posting the articles.

If you and everybody else is posting to the same article sites then there is a duplicate content penalty - the robots will keep seeing the same articles and regard them as low importance sites. And if they are regarded as low value sites then they will have almost no SEO value. This will mean that the backlinks will not help your ranking. In fact, it could hurt you; multiple postings all over the place may look like spam to the robots.

Concentrate on posting high quality relevant articles on one or two well ranked sites. You only need one good back link to catapault your site up the results page.

perhaps someone could provide a list of some good sites?

i publish articles but wouldn't like to say whether i'm doing them in the right place or not, even if they do provide back links.

Do lots of research.

If the article site appears to be a vehicle to generate adsense income then walk away.

If the article site does well in the SERPs for specific keywords, generates interest (in the form of coments) and neets the needs of the niche market for whom the article is written then it may be worth investigating.

If you want to gain long term results in the SERPs you need to put the hours in. Nothing in life is free and the search engines are getting smarter - they are already discounting many of the low level directories and link farms, clunky syndicated article sites could well be next since all most of them do is clog up the internet arteries. In theory all you need in one article on one site and let the robots do the rest. But because everybody syndicates to every site everybody syndicates to every site. Result: nobody wins.

One link from a PR6/7 site is worth 1000 low level links. That's who you should be targetting.

Isn't submitting articles to thousands of sites an artificial way of building links? Natural links are when someone else links to you. Where's the natural aspect of linking here if you can get any article bank (that uses active links) link to you?

i think they key is to do it slowly ie. not getting thousands of links at a time. links from articles are still natural if you follow the rules

first of all, thanks for all the responses!
i´ll wait a little longer and see how many backlinks i get through the articles.
i take my time to write the articles and i see them published on blogs, relevant websites and all that but when i check the backlinks it doesnt show up! thats whats really astonishing to me! i find my article on a blog with my sig line and with my (working) link but the SE´s still dont show my link. so the article has been indexed (otherwise i wouldnt have found it) but my backlink is not!
what other ways are you guys using to get one-way links?
thanks so much for all the answers. this forum is great!
