Blogging for SEO - 12-01-2008, 12:42 PM

Hiya

I have a website the-life-doctor.com. I would ask for another review but There are some changes being made so I will ask when done.

I have a blog spot at blogger.com and i mention my site in it all the time. The only thing is that even when you type in my sites address, it doesnt actually come up as a link.

Would a blog provided by the hosting company and having it linked to my site help with SEO?

Thanks

Blogger has been used for so much spam that most links are worthless from an SEO point of view.

In order for a link to provide some link juice it needs to be found in the first place. You then need to make sure the source article provides value to your visitors. Any link you provide should be relevant both in the anchor text and the target material.

Simply link dropping in your blog won't do any good at all.

As to not being found, do you mean the blog? It probably isn't found because the search engines don't know it exists. You need a link from another site that point to the blog and is indexed by the search engines.

Correct, if the link exists then there is no reason not to show that link.

Not true, google won't delete a site from the index just because it link builds via blogspam. What it will do however is ignore all those links when it determines ranking.

Sigh, do some research.

I'm sure blogging has its uses to an extent in regards to seo, if you're the blogger then providing the occasional link will do good, right? If you're posting comments on blogs surely thats also good as long as comments are insightful and links are kept to a minimum?

You should also look at blog commenting as a way to draw direct traffic to your site. You get visitors only if you provide insightful and constructive comments in your posts

Where's the best place to slip a link in thugh do you reckon. In the url box or add one into the comment if you think you've been helpful enough?

It doesn't really matter where you put your URL. But remember, most quality blogs use no-ffollow on the comment so there is zero SEO value. Think on this as well, do you click on the links in blog comments? I suspect the answer is probably not, if so why do you think others will? And in any case, unless the target page is relevant to the blog post those who do use your link will not stay for long.

So yes, links in blog comments will bring the odd visitor but you also need to make sure your site is informative and interesting - if not then the whole exercise was pointless.
