- according to some studies people get 2/3 of new blogs from comments, which let you to give comments and trackback in other blogs more importance, start by selecting the most important blogs in your business arena then comments and add your blog link avoid spam and to add your web site link just your blog link.
- add content daily or weekly such as 2 or 3 per week, that get spider crawl your blog and your web site by adding a link to your web site.

If you're wanting to blog for SEO purposes (to increase traffic and search engine rankings for your site) then you really want to host the blog yourself. Wordpress is free, and very good but there are others. Loads of reviews online so I won't list pros and cons here.

Once you have your blog up and running there are lots of blog directories where you can submit your blog or your feed to get it noticed.

As with all SEO practices it will take dedication and time to establish. The results do some though. I started blogging over a year ago and have noticed a definite increase in rankings and traffic as a result. Good luck!

Blogs can certainly improve pagerank yes. I have 500+ blogs all PR3+ and they supply over 50,000 backlinks alone to my main website allthough they all have to be on seperate IP's for this to happen.

So, apart from creating great content, is the key to it having the blog as part of your site rather than using external hosting?
