I'm hoping to get clockspot.net (web-based employee timeclock) up the google rankings. I dont have any experience with SEO, but am hoping to find some good resources. Does anyone have a good suggestion on a place to start?

If you are looking to start from scratch with some DIY search engine optimisation then you have a bit of a task on your hands. Like wood1e says do some obvious searches in Google and concentrate on what not to do rather than what other people may think you should do.

However, if you are interested in a quote then let me know and I gladly reply in some detail.

Sigh, it is once again with a heavy heart they I say: optimizing a site to improve your ranking is not something you do after designing the site. SEO is a fundamental part of the design.

Sure, you can do some tweaks but if the structure is poor there is little you can do.

Your site has (for example) multiple <h1>, the same title on every page, no descriptions and a whole mess of inline styles that if the structure was revisited could be replaced by simple tags such as <h2>, <h3> etc.

But as advised - do some research. A good place to start would be the search engine guidelines.

Here is a cut and paste from another post I made

The truth of the matter that real SEO is a lot of work and for most people running a company or a website they do not have the time to dedicate to it. If, after reading up on the subject, you would like to spread some of the workload feel free to PM me. (Another shamless plug... damn! I gotta stop this :P )
