First on Yahoo

Well, I must share the news with you, my fellow businesmann :-) After merely a month, my website is ranked 1st at Yahoo! I'm so happy 'cause while I'm on the net from 1994, it's my first webiste.

I think that the best advice regarding to website ranking was from Google team: "Make site for your readers, not for search engines." I developed it that way and search "postitions and promotions" brings www.poandpo.com as the first choice at Yahoo. I read so many papers about SEO and I wonder do we spend to much time optimizing some technicalities insted of optimizing content of our sites?

It depends on what search terms people want to optimize for as some are much more competitive than others.

Incidentally when I looked at your site most of the graphics and buttons wouldn't load

Okay. Great. You rank #1 on Yahoo. But for what keyword? Is it a highly competitive one-word keyphrase or some uncompetitive five word keyphrase?

And what do you do with that ranking? Let it sift through and leave or convert to your customers? Converting attracted customers is easier than attracting new ones. Continue working on your site content, improve site usability and accessibility to convert even more customers

That being said, Yahoo has different demographics from Google. Google has more tech-savvy folks and I am not sure for Yahoo. The rest of the pack? (That being said, MSN does have more non-Internet savvy folks like mom, mom, teenagers, etc)

Great start - but are your intended audience really going to be searching on the term "positions and promotions" (exact keyphrase)? Unless they already know your site but can't remember the URL I think it's unlikely. If I wanted to find the info on your site I guess I might type positions promotions into Google (no quotes) but you don't rank in the top 1000 for that.

You're on the right path - write for the users, not the SERPs, but do optimise, and do target search terms which will be of value and actually bring you qualified traffic otherwise you're just wasting your time.

My advice - Use the resources available and put the effort into proper keyword analysis and then optimise for the most effective terms!

A bit of advice on rankings with your site:

1. the search engines [any] will not like the redirect to /nuke/

2. most engines do not like PHP nuke full stop. and, I note that beyond your home page has been indexed in yahoo - a common problem with PHP Nuke.
