I've recently noted that Googlebot is no longer visiting every 7 days as per my META tag, but is now visiting every day which I presume is a good thing.
I've been adding small bits of content over the last few weeks but not enough (IMO) to merit a daily visit...

Is it a sign that Google thinks more of my site now that it's been up for a few months...What does anyone think?

I'm not sure that Google or any other search engine take much notice of the revisit instruction in the website coding. More frequent visits is a sign that Google likes you and mine is normally spidered every other day.

Thanks Ian,

Can I ask how often you update your content as I presume thats how you

I think the revisit tag is ignored now

The bots visit your site when they feel like it

sometimes you won't see them for weeks (a sign an update is near) other times every day.

The bot will come by your site (generally) from following links from other sites to yours. So the more links from reguarly spidered sites, means more visits.

Hi Peter,

thanks for that... but I do find it interesting that googlebot was religiously following the 7days in my meta tag up until about 10 days ago & since then it has visited every day!

But I guess what I need to know now (as per my previous post) is how often do I need to update to keep it interested, days, weeks, months?

I change the content in many of my pages about once a month but I have no idea of whether that is optimum or not.

googlebot will generally deep crawl every month or so for their updates - so long as your site structure allows it to go where it should go

I have heard that people are getting their sites deep crawled and indexed by using the new google site maps - you may want to try that one

Big new sites are unlikely to get deep crawled naturally by G

Further to my question/observation I can report that it was a good thing, looks like my site is being upgraded to a PR 3. It's not being reported every where yet, but using the "future page rank" tool on SEOCHAT I can see it is being rolled out across googles servers.
