I.e., site is blahblahdotcom and I want to search google for keyword: tennis

If example.com isn't returned on the first page of results, how do I find out what number result it is?

Change your preferences to 'view 100 results' and keep scrolling down until you find your page.

Then ask someone else in a different location to do the same. And then sign out from google and do the search and choose a different version of google and so on and so forth.

The only real way to check the position of a domain/webpage is to do it yourself.

Another great way to determine who has the most backlinks for a particular phrase is to use allinanchor:"your keywords here" usually its close to normal results but shows the most backlinks versus other factors in regular search such as authority.

Using allinanchor as it's name suggests will only show those results where the keyword is included in the anchor text. Not every one uses the keywords in their anchor text so you are only seeing part of the picture.

Maybe you can use this "http://www.ventio.se/seo-tools/google-position/" to check it.

You could use that tool but the results are very incaccurate and don't take into account the location of the searcher, their preferences, time of day, version of google or which data centre is being used.

Well, its so simple to see the keyword ranking, just type keyword "tennis" (your keyword) in the query box and then press CTRL+F and type here your site "blahblahdot.com" (your site) and then press Enter, so if your site in the top 10 results then you will see your site, you can also use the "advanced searches" so that you can see your site from more results...

Now that google is giving more and more emphasis to personalised search, and regional search, this is not very accurate. You can use a tool such as rank tracker which will check your ranking automatically in several different search engines. Just take your ranking as a ball park figure, it will likely fluctuate up and down, but you can get a reasonably accurate average position.
