Visitor analysis is the key. You need to look at where they land, what they do, where they leave. Find out which pages are most popular, what sells the best, what never sells. Change the colours, fonts, positions, backgrounds, wording, titles, descriptions, images. Test different checkout systems, set up a newsletter, run regular promotions, set up a help desk.

There is no single answer. Analyse, adjust, test and analyse again. And keep doing this for as long as the site exists.

However, I read a report a while back that showed that the checkout process was still the highest barrier to competing a sale - more people abandoned a site at checkout that at any other point. So it might be worth starting there.

Effective Web Design - It's not that difficult if you follow the rules.

I didn't see anybody mention it... so...

Clean up your site architecture and make sure your not serving any duplicate content... and only after you've come to the conclusion that duplicate content is working in against you and not in your favor...

Serving the same content from different urls can drop your PR significantly... it can be dangerous to clean it up if your not careful with what your doing so if you do it without really understanding if the duplicate content is working in your favor or against you... be sure you can revert back to where you were before...

my first question to this is why do you want to improve your page rank - page rank is not everything, for example how many people go shopping on the internet with the page rank counter on?

Far better to concentrate your efforts on other things than just page rank

Agreed. I know PR is still important because it's an indication of how google give importance to a site. However, instead of just focusing on increasing your page rank, why not concentrate on providing a quality content for your site.

^^Good point. I'd say to also improve more on ranking high on the SERPs as that is where traffic comes from

Agreed. Making your site be listed on the higher position in SERP is really more important. In this way, your site is more accessible to your visitors...
