Get more quality inbound links.

However....

Do not ever, ever worry about PR. It's your ranking that is far more important.

And more important than that is keeping your visitors on the site. Much better to convert 1 in every 10 than 1 in every 100.

Ranking is not the same as PR. Your ranking is your position in the search engine results page for a specific search. This ranking is calculated using hundreds of different criteria by the search engines. One of the criteria is the number of links to your site (the heart of the PageRank algorithm).

If you want to improve your ranking you need to work on the site itself.

If you want to improve your PageRank you need to start link building.

Neither of these activities is simple or quick. You will need a plan of action that covers every single nuance of the site. For example: consider the page titles, description, headers and copy. Look at your navigation, inline links, images, alt tags, site structure, URLs, the checkout process, information pages, articles... Think about promoting the site, your USP, special offers, adwords...

And consider that the bigger the site the longer it will take for the search engines to review each page. I usually work on 6 to 12 months to before assessing the results of any major changes.

So yes, you can improve things but it takes time and usually money.

PS: I noticed on your site that the special offers image is missing and when I clicked on the link there weren't any - things like that will drive customers away. As will the horrid copyright rollover on the product pages. It's the little things that can ruin your online reputation.

Before you embark on a link building campaign you need to assess and analyse the site itself.

First thing to do is look at your conversion rate, if it is less than 1% then work on finding out why. See when people exit the site, how long thay stay, where they are coming from, what they look for on the site. If most visitors stay for only a few seconds then you need to look at ways of keeping them for longer.

If you are already getting over 1% conversion look to increasing this to 2%. Many websites have a 'if you liked this then maybe you will like this' bit. Do you have a newsletter? Do you have a DIY spot in the local radio? Is your URL plastered all over your delivery vans?

The point I'm trying to make is that link building only has value if you have a successful website. If the site is unattractive or offer little value to the visitor then there is no incentive for other sites to link to you.

Once you do have a successful website then the links will happen on their own. For example, if customers are impressed with your service they will reccomend you to others via blogs and forums. Maybe a supplier will add a link to their site if they like doing business with your. Link building is not about getting a listing in every free directory in the UK, it's about networking, socializing, influencing and becoming top dog in your particular niche, do this and you will get all the links you need.
