How long for changes to filter into google index ?
10-10-2006, 09:42 PM
  #1

Hi, yet another basic question
How long after updating page titles, Headers and on page text (files and directory structure unchanged) would I expect to start to see this reflected in google.co.uk ?
I know it is currently referring to the old pages as the title has not updated as yet
Thanks
Tim

Usually about a month. But it then all depends on which datacenter you access, which country you are in, how your preferences are set up etc. And if google is reconsidering your changes it can even dump you off the SERPs for a while.

depends on how often your page is crawled and when it was last crawled

Good point, I forgot about that.

If the googlebot likes what it sees then it will visit more often. The more often the site is crawled the quicker the updates.

What's the big secret? Inbound links from a popular site and fresh content. Even google tells you this in the webmaster guidelines - there is loads of info and hundreds of tips on how to improve your ranking.

Depends on the Page Rank of the site and the rate of change/addition of new content.

For example a PR 5 site with an updated news facility may get the home page re-indexed every day but then the rest of the site may only get re-indexed once every two weeks.

And, dont take the Google cache as a sign of a re-index nor your server logs/web stats as a definite sign that Google has been through the site again.

get more links from sites that get crawled daily - normally a PR6

google has a new way of indexing these days, if it sees no update from your server it will not re-cache your pages (it does this to save bandwidth)
