Question
I have added an article to a directory and then started some link building to make the article go up in the search engines.

The problem is even though I have created the backlinks using rss,web 2.0 and other articles, google or yahoo isn't picking these backlinks up for some reason.

For the last few week the pages that contain my backlinks have been indexed and have been moving in the search engine.

Can anyone please tell me what I can do so that google/yahoo come to the site and pick up these backlinks

They probably have indexed the pages with the links but decided they aren't worth including in the index.

All your efforts are in vain, article/directory submission is a pointless activity unless you know what you are doing. RSS only works if you are picked up by the readers. I have no idea what web 2.0 link creation is.

Link building take time and effort, the links you need can take months to get and even longer to have an effecrt. There are no quick fixes.

Incidentally, I've never done any link building but still manage to get on page 1 for all sorts of stuff. I'd tell you my secret but then I'd have to shoot you.

Actually it may not be necessary. If your content is good and site structure sound the search engines will reward you. The inbound links are an additional measure.

Have you tried checking if the pages your backlinks are on are indexed. I.E. do a site search for the pages your backlinks are on.

Generally I think on page optimization is more relable.

And if you must generate backlinks try some article marketing.
Building a link wheel is also pretty effective

What I usually do is build my (dofollow) backlinks on pages that are already cached - and then I ping those pages after.

Most forums (including this one) have nofollow links so there is no benefit whatsoever in forum posting for SEO purposes.

I'm not sure how beneficial blog commenting is either and in the case of my quite successful and fairly widely read blog I remove all links before publishing the comment

It is impossible, your total doFollow backlinks can be showed only from Webmaster tools.
