Keyword optimzing for 500 hits a day

I'm a little new to SEO and have a question. I was watching a video tutorial online, and the guy (Allen Bullock) said if you want to get lots of traffic, I should search engine optimize for keywords with low competition. So if I search engine optimized for 10 -20 low competing words and got to the top for those terms, i could probably pull in 500 total hits a day.

So how does that exactly work? Would I duplicate my website 10 different times and create 10 different websites, and search engine optimize them for different key terms? Thanks in advance

This whole approach is wrong. You should aim to build an informative and interesting site that people will want to visit.

You should certainly not duplicate your content onto 10 different websites because 9 of them will never even get onto the results page.

And just supposing you find a keyword with low competition, if nobody is searching for that keyword then all your efforts have been in vain.

SEO is not a bolt on extra, it is built into the design of the website and begins before you even turn on the computer. There are thousands of sites, blogs and forums dedicated to the business. It is not a quick fix and can take months to achieve even moderate success. Optimizing for a set of keywords that nobody searches for is not the answer.

I think right now you should learn SEO articles and try to analyse search engine then start other things.

I think what they were trying to say was target 20 pages on your website for 20 different phrases where each gets 25 visitors a day, then 20 x 25 is 500 rather than putting all your efforts into the big money phrases. Even if you got 10 visits for each of those 20 pages you'll get 200 visitors a day - then build from there.
