very true Peter - once you get the results you can click through to Google, Yahoo and MSN and find that out. You can obviously cut out the the middle man and do it direct with google by typing in "link:" before your URL. But you all know that anyway.

Using the Google toolbar you can also see PR of the page you are on and then check backlinks. Funnily enough this is exactly how I found this forum, it was a back link to a page I was viewing.

I am sure the software you are promoting cuts a lot of the leg work out.

I usually do it all by hand. I go and do a Google or Yahoo search and visit the top 5 or so websites. Then I check out their pages, view their HTML, see the PR rankings, etc. It takes a lot of time, but I like my hands on approach.

Finding out where they're getting their links from is the easy part: getting those same people to link to you as well (or even instead!) is the clever bit!

I'm tempted to ask about a piece of software that looks for sites which look like the sites linking to your competition's, but aren't doing......

Hi, I bough this. It can has about 8 modules. One of it, use to track the competitors linking. Hm... Todate, i can't really catch-up how can i rank well in Yahoo! instead of Google.

That will certainly list who is linking, but it won't tell you:

- the page rank
- the title of the page
- the anchor text used in the link

all important stuff - plus it saves you a ton of time. Just value your time per hour; if a piece of software can do this for one site in 2 minutes and you want to undertake research on 5 sites it could take you days rather than 10 minutes.

Yes, you are right.
There are somany softwares and webtools which can perform analysis and give us result with in few minutes.

These softwares also carring out searching and submissions to a huge no of directories instantly.

seo elite is a good tool. You can access all your competitors links and then try to get them yourself. You can also see where you rank in google for certain keywords. I have just started myself and have found the data on seo elite invaluable, even though it may be a bit old hat to all the seo people on here.
