My site has been around since December 1999 which is one of the reasons that I thought it ranked highly.

I noticed google didn't visit my site for a couple of days last week but it's now back to visiting daily. I think that it's probably a normal monthly update but who knows!

My company's site was up and running since March 2003 therefore I am not sure your theory holds in our case.

Anyway, we have been monitoring our rankings and noticed that we have gained about 30 places in the last two days (were on page 7-8 now on page 4-5) for our main key words combination. Hopefully we will go back to our first page position soon (me having wishful thinking )........ but I find the whole thing really stupid.

BTW, we did nothing with our web site in the last few days.

I am sure some wise guys will figure out the real causes of the latest upheaval soon.

Regards,

Joel

Hi Joel

That's good news

What I have seen before is that google implements an algo change

Then all hell breaks loose and they slowly turn down whatever they have implemented and some sites come back

What has also been experienced is sites that drop off the map when the change is made, often come back staight @ #1 !!

My site is still in third position on page two and the telephone remains ominously quiet.

I have been going through all of the reciprocal links on my site and have removed several links to sites that have either never managed to get themselves indexed by Google or more likely, have recently been delisted, as I hear that Google looks badly upon sites that link to "bad areas"

Are there stats out for the percentage of searches carried out on the top search engines? I keep hearing that Googles is no longer as dominant as it was but I've not seen any supporting figures.

also check your outgoing links to see if the site is banned

This is a big no no in google

I had a link to a banned site, I removed it, and moved up 4 places !!

Search for "google banned tool" in google and plug in your links pages

Whilst I am pleased to see the back of them I would like to know what they have done to upset the mighty Google even if just to make sure that I don't do the same thing myself.
It would seem that Google is forgiving as earlier this week I noticed that they were back at the bottom of the first page and have since climbed up to third place and are now one behind me.

It is interesting as it normally takes months to get back into their favour.

Be very carefull with this 301 redirect nonsense.

Does anyone really think google is so dumb it cant understand that

www.mysite.com and mysite.com are the same thing !!!

I think not.

All the 301 redirect is going to do is make sure google removes and non www cache pages, which may be ones you rank for.

Google likes the links to point to the correct content, not 301's to redirect users/bots.
