Page Rank - its a fix right? -
25-01-2005, 09:34 PM
I have read several articles on various forums including threads from people like Google guy that tell me that Google does not fix its results or its Page Rank. If that is the case then how could a search on Getty Images result in a Page Rank of 4? Example:

Page Rank means nothing. A fad that's passed.

I have a website with a PR of 4 but it doesn't appear in the top 50 for the important keyword whereas many other sites with lesser or no PR at all seem to rank higher.
When I use the phrase PR I mean the figure returned by my Google toolbar which itself may be wildly inaccurate. factoring, invoice discounting, asset finance and trade finance specialist broker. Founder member of the Independent Factoring Brokers Association |

Pagerank has little to do with what you see on the results. I think that higher pagerank can get your site visited more often by the googlebot. Ok it is an indication on how important this page is for google, but you can't compare pagerank with how your page ranks for a specific keyword.
If you have a lot of textual content, even with 0 pagerank, you can get at the top 10 results, especially if the content is unique. However as I have said in another post, it is very easy to cheat google and every search engine (until you get noticed and dropped from their index). The pagerank indicator is not inaccurate, it might be getting the measure from a different server than the one serving google.com or google.co.uk for example. That different server might not be updated as the google.com site. |

A second site that I launched two or three months ago has a page rank of 4 but is nowhere useful at all on it's important keyword. I haven't checked how often it is spidered though. factoring, invoice discounting, asset finance and trade finance specialist broker. Founder member of the Independent Factoring Brokers Association |

I hate Google.
I would like to know how to cheat it. I have a site talking about Hot Food Vending yet I come nowhere on this term. Some crap for $15 telling "how to make money" from non existant machines comes higher up. That is until a manufacturer launched a site and took the top 3 positions. They still do not actually have a machine though! Any thoughts appreciated. Adam |
