Just one advice - see if the SEO provider's website is ranking high for keywords in its niche. That is a good indicator if they can really deliver on their SEO work

Dont pay to get your ranked chosen keyword in a page other than the first page. Its a waste of money to pay anywhere other than the first page unless they charge a very cheap price to get on the 2nd page.

I have a keyword where my website ranks #10 on the first SERP and even though Google says that they are 6500 searches a month for it, I only get about 700 clicks to my website from that keyword a month.

So basically, 5% of the people searching for something on Google will go to the 2nd SERP.

the website in the first page in the first position will get 47.16% of the clicks, website with the 2nd position gets around 14% of the clicks and so on.

Here are some articles about SEO positioning and their worth which should help you decide what page rank and postion you want to get.

(dont have enough posts yet to show url but here are the partial url)

grokdotcom.com/2008/09/05/why-rank-1-in-google
buzzle.com/articles/140480.html

On another note, what you should do is give the SEO company free reign to one page or let them create a landing page for the target keyword that will then lead people to your website homepage.

That way, you dont lose the integrity of your website but get to have high SEO work.

One last thing, make sure to specify to the SEO company which country you want to target in Google because Google has a website for individual countries like:

Google.com for the us
google.co.uk for the UK
google.ca for canada and so on

So you may rank #1 in the canada but #45 in the UK which wont help you if you are targeting UK.

What I am curious about is that your website is a 6 page brochure. How long do you intend to have that up? If its just a limited time promotional website than it probably wont be worth your while to pursue SEO ranking. Its better to just do PPC, send out a few press releases and write an article about it.

visit the seo portfolio from different site and request for quote, and then choose the suitable one among them.

Think first,

What can you do?

What you have to do for your client site?

Time limitation means in how many days you can give him results?

If you will think on above then you can understand easily that how much you should expect.

Thanks

If you outsource it from asia, then it could range from 500 dollars to 1000 dollars.

It depends on what you want and on what the company can offer you. You should look for some companies and see what they offer, it is easier!

I agree that SEO is pretty straightforward and the formulas to improve your SEO are simple enough that a monkey could do it.

But not everyone has the time to learn how to do SEO nor have the time to do it. Initially, its a pretty time consuming process but once you have started you can get away with just dedicating about 2 to 3 hours a week on it.

Agree with you that it is time consuming to learn. But as you said one gets to the stage when all you need to do is a couple of hours a week. When you think about the fact that SEO is a continual thing, the amount of money that can be saved by doing it yourself rather than paying is tremendous

I guess that most people looking for advice here are fairly small with not a great deal of cash to spare. Learning the basics of SEO and applying them is fairly simple and in my opinion every small company that wishes to derive an income from their website should understand the basics and if they later wish to pay someone to fine tune the site they can do so.

I have never paid a penny to anyone for SEO and my site is currently fifth on Google out of 8,000,000 webpages concerning factoring.
