Question Web directory submission! - for Cratima Interactive ??? - 04-10-2007, 12:29 PM

I've started to make SEO for our Web Design Company Cratima Interactive
and one of the problems I am confronting with is that there is
a fee difference between different web directories on the web.

I can submit our site to free web directories, reciprocal link directories,
and paid directories.

A have some lists with free directories, and until now I've only submitted
Cratima Interactive web site to free web directories. But, if paid directories are profitable I will invest my money for their services.

Now, my question is: is there really a difference between this submissions?
I mean, does Google index your site depending on the amount of money you pay a web directory site? Or do this paid web directories offer services that help Google index your site better?

I'm looking forward for your replies, thanks !

Cratima,

Whilst we all appreciate your contributions to the forum, you seem to be ignoring a lot of the advice given by the members.

You cannot do any SEO on your website. SEO is a system by which the structure and content of a website changed to provide the search engine robots with something useful to index. As your site is made of flash there is nothing for the search engines to index. Therefore you cannot do any SEO.

What you are doing is marketing your site. This is completly different to SEO.

To answer your questions. The major search engines no longer pay much attention to directories. There are still a few that have some link juice it really isn't worth the effort. If you want to pay for a directory listing then don't let me stop you - but don't do it for SEO purposes - you should be aiming to improve your conversion and to do that you need more traffic. If the directory doen't bring you new traffic then stop paying them.

Remember: the guidelines for all the search engines advise against building links in order to improve your ranking. It follows therefore that you should steer well clear of link exchanges as you can even get penalised.

Final thought. Google is now campaining against paid-for links. The general thought is that all paid-for links should have the NOFOLLOW attribute.

Effective Web Design - It's not that difficult if you follow the rules.

Now if you want to "market" your website then I would suggest using some extensions in firefox so that you can see the Page Rank of the directories that you are submitting too. This will give you a better idea if the directory is worth it or not.

Flash sites sucks for SEO, so better try to have it in pure HTML which are SE friendly.
Regarding Paid directory submission you should avoid it, rather i will suggest try to get/write good relevant contents for your site.
It's the quality content which brings visitor and make them to bookmark your site.

We are going to make a HTML version of Cratima Interactive web site.

The reason for doing this is all the answers and reviews we got from this forum. I would like to thank you for that!

It will be easier to optimize the HTML version, but we hope to create something entertaining for our visitors too, because, until now they were impressed.

I've heard that Google banns all the web sites that use paid directories.
Are they banning the web sites that pay for submission, or olny de web directories that ask for money?!?!?

A colleague of mine at Cratima Interactive has just sent yesterday an e-mail to Google to ask for more details, no answer yet.

Getting your info all mixed up here. If you pay for an entry in a directory then that is your perogative. It may help with your ranking if the directory is indexed and the search engines regard the site as providing good value.

Google will not ban you for doing this.

If you pay for an entry in a spammy free for all directory the search engines will probably disregard the link.

If you pay for an advert on a site and the search engines detects this as such they will disregard the link.

If you do link exchanges with unrelated sites you may get penalised.

You should be planning your link building strategy in order to increase your traffic so only aim for those directories who will help you in this endeavour. Your aim should not be to get to #1 in google but to get more clients.

Web directory submission! - 25-10-2007, 05:53 PM

Thanks for the replies!

Thanks fisicx for your help here and on my other thread .

I have to admit that my messages were not clear enough.
The thing is that web directory submission is not SEO is internet marketing.
I must have the mixed up!

Thanks again!
