Your Toolbar PageRank is loosely based on your actual PageRank and this is calculated from your internal and inbound links.

Google recalculates PageRank every time there is a change to a website and if they decide certain types of links are to be devalued or boosted. For example, they could devalue links in blog posts or forums and boost links from charity sites.

Google updates the Toobar PageRank every few months to reflect the changes in your actual PageRank. In other words, your PageRank had already dropped a while back but you are only just now seeing the effects in your toolbar.

Has your ranking changed? Are you seeing any difference in visitor numbers? If not then don't worry about it.

Except it doesn't work like that. The value of an inbound link (the proper name for a backlink) is calculated from millions of parameters. You will never be certain if a link adds value to your site or not. The general rule is the easier a link is to obtain the lower the value of that link. So if you are doing article submission, forum posting or directory submission you will need thousands of links. But if you got a homepage link from a government site you probably wouldn't need any others.

PR has gone up and down for almost every site on the net recently, its not as easy to get a standard PR ranks as it once was.

The basis of Google PR is the traffic and the backlinks that your site has. If your daily traffic decreases, then your PR goes down also.

I wonder the same problem like you. Your case is not the only one. Fisicx said "Google updates the Toobar PageRank every few months..", so such the site can have chance to get its PR back? But the it takes a long time? Can we shorten the time, or have to wait until Google updates the Toolbar PageRank? Though you guys suggest we shouldn't worry about that, I think it's still a pressure

PageRank and Toolbar PageRank and two different things. Your page rank is recalculated continuously. It is based on a series of eigenvalues that results in a logrithmic scale calculated to 13 decimal places. It is this value that is used as just one of the 250 signals used to determine your ranking in the SERPs.

Toorbar PageRank is the poor cousin of this calculation, can be manually changed and already out of date when it is publiushed. If you see your Toolbar PageRank fall them you have porbably done something Google doesn't like. The most common cause is excessive link building or linking to bad neighbourhoods.

If you continue to have additional backlinks, you can get back the rank that it is before.

Writing and submitting articles to directories can give you extra backlinks and additional traffic to your main site. As these articles age, they can gain PR thus giving your main site more relevant backlinks.
