Beer import into UK. REDS agent issue. -

Hi, I am planning to import canned beer to UK from another EU member country on a permanent basis. The transportation is arranged by a friend's company who owns a few big trucks. The preparation of most of the necessary documents required by HMRC and the accounting would be taken care by a professional accountant. I was told however that I should personally contact a REDS agent and deal with them in order to proceed with the matter. So I had obtained a list of REDS agents/companies and talked to them. Unfortunately, some of them are simply not interested, some are not present at the moment, and those who are interested simply insist on using their expensive transport service, which makes no sense to me, as the cheap transport means have already been arranged. I spent hours on a phone and could not reach anyone competent, most of these people seem to have no knowledge of their own business and as this is my first time in this area, I have obviously no idea how to solve it. Could anyone be of help on this forum, perhaps there is a way to bypass a REDS agent, there are so many companies importing goods/alcohol successfully. How do they do it ? Thanks, any help greatly appreciated.
