Re: Gaming site and the law - 01-09-2005, 06:20 PM

Hi Steve,

Im considering a poker site (same as empirepoker and the likes) which is to be given "Irish branding",.. Irish....poker.com.

There is at the moment, no individual site concentrating on the Irish market, so I think theres a fair chance an enterprise such as this could succeed. With the 40million plus "Irish Americans" in the states, I am sure that with the correct marketing an Irish branded poker site would quite quickly command a large customer base.

I have some capital available for this project and its possible also that some of my friends and business associates would also be interested in joining. I can get the programming done relatively cheaply and have been in discussions with several different software companies already about this. Servers, etc can all be hired "cheaply" also.

The main cost involved in this would of course be the marketing side of things. For this the budget must be large, even if using the most ingenious techniques.

As regards Licensing, I think Malta may be the best place to start with anyway. If the UK regulations change and appear more suitable, theres no problem in changing juristiction.

Any conditions imposed by the Maltese Government (or whereever the licence will be held) should be easily adhered to.... They can't force you to employ (a given number) of local people if there are not people available with the skills required.... Also, the wages in Malta are far lower than the UK or Ireland, so we would most likely be setting up an office there and seeking local staff regardless of whether it is required on the licence or not.

My main interest is in property (development and land dealing), so this will only ever really be a side line for me- hopefully a very profitable one!!.

If you are still interested, please let me know your thoughts... Maybe you have other ideas for a gaming site apart from poker,, I am interested in ANY business, so long as the profits are there.

John

PS. Are you interested in the adult online business at all? - Im looking for someone to come in with me on a Live Cam network.... its ready to go.
