Small business confidence survey results - 23-02-2005, 11:13 PM

Thanks for all those who participated

The results show that 83% of small business owners are confident about the UK economy in the next 12 months

More at http://www.teneric.co.uk/small-busin...vey-feb05.html

Now - I tried to get this press release listed at all the national newspapers and news @ bbc online and no one would take it

Then I saw the news that was posted - it's ALL negative (Germany economy poor, problems with food aditives etc)

So I suppose when business confidence suffers in our sector some one will take it ?

Frustrating

Anyone else see this ?

It is hard to get a story authored by someone not working for them on the BBC website (not to mention the BBC TV channels).

I also agree with the BBC and the other sources that things don't look so good. It is true if you think that life is much more expensive than it used to be. Not to mention what will happen if the UK adopts the euro currency. Buyer spending is getting more and more limited.

I think that people are looking for better value : so it could whittle out the chaf, so to speak, but if your product and your service is good I think you can be fairly optimistic - even for 'luxury' goods. People have got used to their luxuries and now think of many as essentials.

Yes, there could be problems for exporters if the euro comes in (but then again, I am sure that exporters to the USA must be pretty pessimistic already given the current exchange rate).

However, does anyone else feel that the media is guilty of putting the downside so often, that they more or less cause a downturn? Take the housing market: now I know that the rises could not continue, but 'expert' after 'expert' telling us that there is going to be a downturn put a lot of people off, which meant that the market slowed. Anyone think it was deliberate pessimism to cause the slow down?
