Accountancy fees - 27-10-2006, 01:22 PM

As a sole trader, keeping all my own excel records I have been paying £420 per annum to my accountant who completes my tax return.

I thought this was reasonable until a tradesmen with similar size business advised me his acountant charges were £200.

As I am now moving to LTD I have been advised my fees will increase by several hundred pounds (waiting for exact figure) for the extra work. Does anyone have any guidelines for what is a reasonable cost and is is based on turnover or the work the accountant undertakes.

When I employed this accountant who is part of a national organsiation I did so on the basis that they only charged for work undertaken but I now have a DD set up on a monthly basis.

Also if I am to change accountant is there a best time to do so i.e. after year end and should I consider waiting to start new LTD until new accountant is in place. My current accountant has suggested LTD should commence 1st Jan 2007 which is before the end of my financial year.

Thanks in advance

Donna

Hi Donna

Your accountancy fee will depend on what your accountant actually does for you. If it’s just your tax return and nothing else then £420 is excessive. However if he does your accounts and tax return then £420 is pretty good.

For limited companies fees will vary as there are a whole range of things to be taken care of. If you PM me your e-mail address I can send you my current price list so that you have something to compare him to.

Regards

Thanks Joy,

I have sent you an email through your website before realising about the private messaging system on this forum (DOH).

Thanks for any advice & assistance.
