Hi,
I'm alex and I have 2 websites. I have tought about a marketing plan that allows people to buy into my idea but I am not sure if it will work. Please advise! Here is the idea:

I have this video aggregation community website and I decided to sell the website and brand in a franchise manner. I am selling the website and I give them the right to use my brand name in other countries ( or other domain name extensions) - different content, same brand name. I get a fixed fee and they use the name, and they also get all the revenue that they can produce. The fee is quite small and I thought I would rapidly grow a brand for all the parties involved.
What to you think? Just sell the wesbites at a lower fee and not get involved in this plan?
Thank you.
Alex

What do you mean by 'video aggregation community website'?

Is it something like youtube?

It is a website that gets videos from youtube, dailymotion, and metacafe with the help of an extraction tool and it embeds the videos into my website. And it is user generated. If you want the link send me a PM, I am not sure I can post here a link.

In which case there is nothing special about your website. This sort of site is very popular and there are hundreds to choose from.

How many visitors to you get each day? If it is in the hundreds of thousands then you might stand a chance of getting a decent return but other than that I'm not sure how you can franchise something when they could create their own site for a few hundred dollars.

It might not be special but a website like this costs about $1200 to make and at least one or two months with the right developers.
To be honest I haven't seen something like my website, as mine creates a playlist of your videos and plays them continuously. Weshow was doing this but without creating a playlist from your videos.
It might not be such a big deal but even if you don't have to much traffic, but enough people buy into this thing it will create quite a presence. As everyone knows, you cannot predict the wildfire that is the social movement.

Check out my website and show me hundreds to choose from. Please.

Had a look at the site and yes I agree that there isn't something quite like this but if you popped up on the viral radar it would take the big players a couple of days to copy your idea and publish.

Nobody is going to buy into your idea unless you can show good traffic volumes, there are thousands of video and picture sites so you are going to have to do some serious marketing to even get noticed.

Because all you are doing is regurgitating existing content the only difference is the community thing and because you are competing with all the other community/social networking sites again this isn't going to get much attention.

I'm sure you will find a niche but if it becomes even slightly popular the community feature will soon appear on all the other video sharing sites.

I am not saying that the big guns would not have me for breakfast, all I'm saying is that if our average joe wants a bit of a brand that might be quite popular (not saying hugely popular), he has the oportunity to invest a reasonable amount of money in a clever little marketing scheme (this was the question: is it or not a scheme that would take off or how do I make it better?). I appreciate that what you're saying might be true but I am not out to make tons of money, I am here to help people like me (I wanted to be part of a big brand name). If this will not work out I will just sell the website/ script. The adult website is going a bit better, hope the telefresh brand will pick up as well. Any marketing ideas?

Hi Alex

Mmmm!

TEST TEST TEST ...

Do lots of testing first. What ever i say or anyone else is not going to make much difference only your customers will tell you the true value.

here is a tip, if you have a product / software to sell do a copyright.

Look into clickbank.com. Look into affiliate marketing. Do bartar with other people to test first. Look into website flipping.

Put analytic tracking stats on the site to have some idea of how many visitors are going to the site, what keywords they are using, how the traffic is getting there and so on.

Then refine your marketing strategy accordingly.

If you have any competitors, look to see what they are doing and how they are getting traffic.

Build up some stats first before approaching anyone with your idea so that they don't thing you are testing your software on them first.

To your success

Claudia

You need an actual marketing plan. You have described what you want to do but how are you going to achieve that? Are you going to email people? start a social media campaign, bad advertisment?

How are you going to show the world what you offer?
