Business plan help - 03-12-2007, 04:19 PM

Hi guys.

I'm doing a business plan for a venture i'm planning and i've run into a block. I was wondering if anyone here could help.

Here goes;

I want to start a B2B company that designs and produces (outsourced) its own range of products to be distributed through wholesale distributors and retailers.

Now, the question is; in the market analysis sumary, who should I discuss as the target market? Business cutomers or the end users?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Guys,

I appreciate that this question may have been asked and answered before in several threads, but I really would welcome a response. This is my first attempt at a business plan and I can't proceed until I get this answer.

Perhaps Peter Hale can help?

Thanks.

Hi,

The answer can be all of the three mentioned by you as any separation of study might deviate the ultimate results perspectives.

Sometimes, even professional companies too face tough situations and questions as they might miss the best targeted audience and start their searching and try finding answers through a number of ways and asking people to fill in questionnaires and surveys is one of the approaches.

Your ventures too need analysis and careful study.

"I want to start a B2B company"

You need to fully understand both - although you are selling to the w/salers, your actual market is the end user and if they don't want what you are selling.........

I think you should always focus on your direct customers and direct providers.
I think you shouldn't try to follow the entire chain to the end user.

Regards the market size clearly the end users are the issue.

Regarding the margin and distribution logistics/ order size/ payment termsthen clearly the retail/wholesale need thinking about. I doubt wholesalers will be overjoyed if you supply to retailers direct. And wholesalers can be tough negotiators!

The biggest question is...why arent you direct marketing to the end users yourself?

1) Ultimate success depends on how your product is perceived by the end user.
2) Wholesalers (and increasingly retailers) will leave you with very slim margins.
3) They will also control your exposure to the market.
4) So if you get the red pencil treatment your market vanishes overnight.

I therefore suggest you carefully consider the question that admagic has put to you in the last post.
