Is it a business expense? What is the benefit to the company?
A works Christmas do is a thank you to the staff for all their efforts. A business lunch takes place to promote the business. I'm not sure taking your wife out for a meal meets either of these criteria so my answer would be no but I'm sure someone else will be along soon to confirm or deny. |

Oh we wish! We'd be out dining every night.
The official answer is no you cannot claim a dinner out with your wife as an expense. However, practically speaking, if it is a one-off you'll probably get away with it as the annual christmas dinner tax allowance per staff member is about £150 if I can remember correctly. |
