Lightbulb Drop Shipping eBay Business - 16-06-2008, 06:27 PM

Hi.

My name's Mo and I'm looking to start a drop-shipping business on eBay. I've been researching this for a while, but I've noticed that most products on eBay seem to be the same price as the drop ship, thus leaving me with profit loss or no profit at all...

I was hoping someone could help me find a supplier or even better, teach me how to find a good drop-shipping supplier with reasonable prices.

Cheers,

Mo.

Hi Mo,

How much commission are you willing to pay your mentor?

Graham

How much would my mentor honestly be looking at getting?

I didn't think about that at all and have no clue as to how much to offer, thus, I'd leave that for you to decide

I trust you'll give me a reasonable figure.

Mo.

And this is where we reach the impass. Supposing I charge you £25 for one hour's consulting. To earn £25 could take you six months of hard work which means the project is not really viable. But supposing we had an intensive mentoring session, taught you everything I have learnt over the last XX years. This valuable information would problably set you back £1000. And the reason it costs so much is because I and many others have work like stink to learn all the tricks of the trade. It's a bit like you asking a businessman for the secret of his success... for free. I'ts not going to happen.

The actual answer is in your first post: the reason everybody charges the same is because everybody is charging the same. If you want a dropshipper you need to do some research. I worked on project and it took nearly three months to find a supplier and over 12 months before they made a profit.
The company folded a few months later when the supplier put their prices up.

You could visit the various dropshipping forums but everybodyt there is chasing the same piece of very small cake.

Nothing is for free. You will be working every day for months just to get the thing off the ground, It's going to cost you money from day one even before you have the business up and running. And you will be competing against every other busienss selling the same products from the same supplier.

If you are prepared to pay for mentoring there is a good chance you could make it - but in order to make a living whoever helps you will charge you at an hourly/daily/weekly rate.

A rerasonable figure could be anything from £100 to £1000 depending on your needs.

Are you still interested?

£1000 is a bit much for me. That would mean it would take me much longer than I anticipated to break even.

As for funding the business for the first few years, I have that covered.

I understand the XX years you have put in to gather that knowledge. Thus, I wouldn't ask you to go any lower. But I cannot pay that either.

I think I'm going to have to do this the hard way... ouch. Thanks for the prompt responses.

Mo

Not saying it would cost £1000 but it's not going to be cheap either. It's just the time it takes to consider all the options, explain the advantages/disadvantages, review the product range, product descriptions, images etc. Then look at how best to integrate into the website and market the business.

To build an effective website is going to take a couple of weeks. To make a successful website can take a couple of years (excuse the egg sucking exercise).

What you can do is come back when you have found a supplier and ask for an opinion and then ask for a review of your website once it's up an running.

Have you tried the dropshipforum?
