Is Franchise Investment Worthwhile? - 24-07-2007, 12:16 PM

Various contributions have made me feel the need to look into the opportunity of investing in a franchise.

Relatively low income and long working hours - the office politics, the early starts and not spending enough time with my wife and family ect ect.....

Question is, does anybody have any success stories from running a small manageable franchise that can be run "Husband and Wife with small children?"

What is it that you do, what are the main benefits, has anybody made a big loss that so thay have had to "pack up and leave"?

Should I steer clear of the idea and continue on the stability of a monthly wage?

Please be honest, this is a serious step that I am currently looing towards.

Go on, see if you can slap a smile on my face!

My apologies, realised that I have posted this on the wrong forum. If anybody knows how I can shift it - please let me know and I'll do it straight away.

Well I can defineatly say that the safest method to start up a business is through Franchising. Research has shown that of all businesses starting today, only 20% will still be trading in 5 years time. With franchising these figures are reversed.

The company I work for has a franchising opportunity. Most of the business partners earn around £3k to £5k. I know its free to join as well..

I hope this makes you smile, it does me. Franchises are only as good as the amount of work you put into it, Normally the investment is high for average wages. The company i work for gives me freedom and time to run a succesful business and it didnt cost a forture.

What you need to do before you start to hand money over is to check the financial status of the business. You can do this very simply on the Companies House website. It costs a pound to get a report showing their latest profit and loss and balance sheets. The link is below:

I had a buddy of mine that went the whole franchise route and failed miserably. I think it was do to the area that he wanted to be in. So the lesson is make sure you do the market research for a successful franchise

Hi - first place to try is the following link for advice. I see there are 1 day seminars being held shortly.....but they do cost around £350.

My advice is to think about something that both yourself and your wife are interested in and are passionate about/know about. Think about your skills.

I work for an Insurance company and my experience in home claims shows that there are always opportunities in franchises such as Chem Dry where you would be making a killing at the moment after all the floods - it is forecast that we will experience more and more similar events going forward and there will be more demand in this type of service.

Food for thought ...

All the best
