No where near enough detail to consider a quote.

For starters, what type of advertising are you planning to use? Will it be simple banners and skyscrapers, text ads or video, will they be search based or fixed, how are planning to collect the revenue and make payments, market the system and convince site owners to carry your adverts.

Taking a rough guess, I'd put the start up cost at £10,000+ with a marketing budget of £2,000/month.

So what you really mean is a directory with specific features to promote each listing.

You can buy directory software - there are hundreds of websites so just search for directory software. You will probably have to pay a developer to change the template and admin features and a graphic designer to do your imagery so I'd budget at least £2000. You may also need a dedicated server so that's £100/month on top plus any ongoing DB administration.

But (and it's a pretty big but) don't expect to make any money from the site and don't expect to see much traffic. Even the biggest and most popular directories (like yell) are seeing their visitor numbers and income plumment because search engines like google do a much better job of finding a local florist.

So by all means invest your money in such a venture but it is very unlikely you will ever see your money again.

I've seen numerous people try to launch online directories. They have all either gone **** up or have got a bad rep for taking money and not really providing any benefit.

You would need a massive start up budget for web advertising etc to get the word out. I agree too much competition and likely to be belly up unless have serious marketing strategy as successful as 118 118

Don't even think about it, you are throwing your time and money down a bottomless pit for no possible return. Use your time on something else.
