Problem attracting right candidates - 01-07-2008, 10:38 PM

We have just started a recruitment business focused on sending pple out to Jobs in the Middle east. Presently targeting and trying to place teachers in Qatar, Dubai, Barhain, Oman. We are getting the business but do not seem to get teachers of the right calibre, answering our job ad's. We currently use Reed and other expat sites (mostly free). We would like advice from any recruiters with the following questions;

What media have you found most cost effective.
What websites would you reccomend (bearing in mind we are on a small budget).

Thanks in advance,for your responses.

Regards
tdm

Are you looking to relocate folks from the UK out to M/E or recruit locally ?

I ask because there might just be a local shortage (I remember when I lived in Belgium, it was almost impossible to employ expats locally and we had to recruit in the UK)

Otherwise teachers in the UK generally won't look at Reed (well, my wife and her school teacher mates haven't yet) or ex-pat - perhaps ask a few teachers where they look for work...

Thanks Peter

We are looking at recruiting native UK qualified teachers who want to work in an "oil boom" country, and earn tax free money plus all the benefits.

The UK teachers I have asked, all point to the TES website as their preffered source of jobs. TES unfortunately only allows UK schools to advertise jobs. we tried unsuccesfully to persuade them.

The TES does advertise international posts. What it doesn't do is permit you to act as a recruitment agency.

So all you need to do is post the vacancies on the TES job board. The problem is that it's not free. so this is your dilemma, do you pay for an advert and get good coverage or do it for free and get poor coverage. I assume that the schools are paying a hefty fee for your services, the one I used charged £600 for each placment, why not use some of this dosh on advertising.

The other big problem is your website - its would be the first port of call for a teacher looking to apply for a job through you - but none of the jobs are listed on your site. This shows a serious lack of credibility as does the aol email address.

If you set up your job board, visitors from the TES will be able to see all the vacancies.

Thanks for your advice. We are actually prepared to pay the TES, but they only accept adverts from Schools. We are not a school, but a recruitment company, hence the request for pointers as per what sites to advertise. We advertised in REED but got poor quality candidates.

This one isn't a school: jobs.tes.co.uk/job.aspx?jobId=514158

Item 10 of the T&C says:
Quote:
10.2 Where the Advertiser is an agency, then the Advertiser and the principal shall be jointly and severally liable for the performance of the obligations contained in this Agreement.
In other words, they will accept adverts from you.

But you still have that credibility problem, In another of your threads it was suggested that do something with the website - and this is still the case. If I wanted to find out more about you (which I would before commiting), your website would be my first point of call.

You need to get the website fixed. I want to see the advert online, visit the school's website, upload my CV and apply for the job. Until you get his fixed the sort of teachers you are looking for won't even know about the jobs

So what possible incentive is there for anyone to apply for a job with you? I'm not being rude, it's simply that I don't know who you are or what you do. If can't see any of the jobs on offer or a means of application why should I bother to get in contact with you?

A few thoughts for you...

Thanks once again. I really appreciate the responses. We actually called TES when we were trying to place the advert and the person we spoke to categorically told us that they do not take adverts from agencies, so thanks for pointing this out to us.

With regards to our site. You are absolutely right. The actual website is under construction and we hope to have it up preety soon. The page that is up is only a holding page.

Cheers
