Sole trader or Partnership? UK & International - 26-07-2008, 12:40 PM

Hi

We (myself (25) and my fiancee (22)) want to start our own business . This would be only IT development / consultancy work.

Current situation:
-- I'm in full time employment + distance learning student; my fiancee is in part-time employment + distance learning student.
-- We have recently done an IT project for a company and were paid for it (2 weeks ago I know I have 3 months to register)
-- The project has been done throught a website (which charged us 10%) the customer can be located anywhere in the world.
-- we additionally pay for the membership
-- My Fiancee wants to go full time with the work and I want part-time for a while and then full time.
-- We will work from home and possibly later on short-term contracts in different places in UK and Europe.
-- The only costs we will have will be at the beginning electricity, petrol, computers, software, licences and broadband.
-- we don't expect to have a profit in first tax year if yes then rather very low.

Our Questions:
1) Should we register as sole traders or as a partnership? or should my fiancee only register as a sole trader?
2) If our customers can be from all over the world; do we have to do something extra? we are paid in dollars, through guru.com
3) If we have extra investment expenses (education) can we add to our expenses? or get some founding?
4) If we are in a partnership and most of the work is done by my fiancee can we record the income on her account only? and expenses on my account (can I this way decrease my full time income?)
5) How do we record our income/expenses (date/type/who/amount?)(+income from guru.com from different customers from different countries)?
6) Is it a good idea to have a join bussiness bank account?
7) What else would it be useful for us to know before we start?

Many thans in advance
Emil & Katie
