Advice Needed: University & Courses - 26-02-2007, 06:11 PM

Hi everyone,
I am extremely interested in working in the finance industry, and would like to know whether you guys have any recommendations for premier institutions where I can get a bachelor degree or its equivalent, anywhere in the world. What I hope for is an interactive and flexible learning environment, with engaging and approachable teachers, which will help lay a sound foundation of theoretical knowledge, analytical skills, and communication capabilities. Recommendations for courses and universities would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Ian

Can you be more specific, i.e. what branch / sector of "Finance"?

Hi Ian, I promise I don't mean this critically, but I think you may be assuming quite a lot with your question, and your assumptions may not necessarily be correct! Specifically, it sounds like you're assuming that "how relevant your degree course is to the field in which you want to work" will be a big factor, but the reality is that it doesn't have to be. I believe that every year many of the best graduate entry positions in "the financial world" go to Maths graduates from Oxford and Cambridge, for instance. It may be that the educational institution from which you graduate is actually far more significant than the relevance of the course-contents. Don't assume the opposite without checking it, anyway - just a thought!

Well asides from Oxford and Cambridge..

For economics/financial related degrees Warwick, LSE, Durham, Bristol, Bath or Loughborough are all good choices outside of Oxbridge and are all respected institutions

If you are interested in Business courses as a foundation to starting up your own business on I'd recommend UEL as well as all the above obvious business university candidates purely based on the opportunities it's affiliation with Knowledge Dock offers. As for reputation, the university is hardly in the same league as the one's mentioned above however.
