Need Common Gentures - 26-04-2007, 10:18 PM

I am writting a paper on differences on meaning of body language in different cultures. I need some common gestures that mean certain things, and how you use it in your everyday life.

Please help me. I'm not sure what to use.

Arguably, the most famous example is:

- Nodding head up and down to say “Yes.”
- In Bulgaria and Greece, this gesture means “No.”

See: http://www.everythingesl.net/inservi...y_language.php

As an aside Hofstede writes extensively on Culture.

Hey, thanks.
That's a really common one that I never even thought of.
Have any others?

This reminds me of the HSBC Local Bank Adverts, trying to think what they were. One was about showing soles of your feet if I recall. Sorry my memory is affected by the Rum and Coke!

Here is another example. In Japan passing an item to someone with one handis very rude. Even a very small item such as a pencil must be passed with two hands.
