anything else ? - 05-05-2005, 06:39 PM

I started this forum for business planning and as support to our customers.

But, that is the least used area

Anyhow, are there any other areas you would like me to add in

I was thinking maybe a technical forum (you know, html, php etc)

Some I can help with -- others I can't

Anything else ?

Peter, I'n not sure this is what you wanted, but I read somewhere here that the average person takes just a few seconds to grab the next item they jump to on the web. We are all speed surfers I guess?

I've been to the business planning part of this site and it has a load of useful stuff. I'd love to digest it all. Problem is it needs dedicated time to read all the text and my attention span isn't that good I have to admit. Its the same when I surf into other parts of this forum and know I should be saying hi to the newcomers, or passing comments on other matters, but generally I just jump to a topic that interests me (sorry newbies).

The planning forum just doesn't have a 'grab factor' perhaps?

Peter - guess there are a lot of people like me, who come across this site, and think great I,ve found the answers to my prayers. But I have to confess that ,at the end of the day I,m not always sure exactly what i,m looking for or expect to get out of this site. And i,ve noticed that as the days have gone by I seem to use or contribute less to the site, like "wolf" I tend to say hi to newcomers less and less
Could the whole problem be, that we forget this is a forum for the exchange of ideas, views and advice, and start allowing ourselves to believe it is the solver of all our problems and is majically going to do all our work for us and turn our ideas or businesses into raging successes.
On many occasions I have been suprised at how many guests are looking and so few members logged in.
Is the site trying to be all things to all men?
I really dont want to seem over negitive because i think this site could turn into something all small/start up businesses want and need,i.e. impartial FREE advice, support and encouragement, but somehow it doesnt quite hit the button.Could it be that there are so many threads and topics that questions and answers get fragmented rather than resolved?.
Peter is it possible(forgive me if you think im speaking out of turn(im sure you will)), but is it getting to, or near, the time that you had support from some of the longer served members to form a group(accessed only by that chosen few) to brainstorm how or where the site goes next.I get the feeling that this site is only a hairs bredth away from being THE site for business communication

Thanks so far for your input - this is exactly what I am after.

Everyone else, please also contribute.

How would you like to see this set up? As I said, this was set up to support customers but has grown nicely. It's based on something I threw together quite quickly based on other forums I frequented.

Maybe I need to either rename or clairify the navigation?.

eg: under finance forum I could split into several sub forums like "raising bank finance" "how can I get finance" etc

BTW, the answer on all the visitors is that SE spiders are also counted - so sometimes there maybe 100 google and yahoo spiders crawling the site

Peter, glad to be of help (also pleased i did not offend)
A new dimension might be a "secure" site for members who sign a confidentiality agreement?.I,ve found i get so far with my questions but am then concerned about opening up to much on just what my business ideas are, therefor i kind of hedge around my questions and have to be a bit vague with my response to those who offer help.
I have said before on other threads that with all the knowledge, experiance, enthusiasm and ideas out there that between a group of us i would be suprised if we couldnt make one or more idea(s) successfull and profitable and go on to develope a range of successes, there always seems to be this arms lenght feeling,no one wants to commit for fear of being ripped off or humiliated

I'm with Wornout on that idea.

Also, when I surf I rarely log on unless there is something I want to comment on (like now). As I'm a 'cookie off' type of person normally, I guess every day I visit I'm recorded as a guest? Maybe that is true of other members and explains some of the guest stats.

Thumbs up Re: anything else ? - 07-05-2005, 11:05 AM

Wolf - which idea are you with me on?.
Does anyone else fancy forming some kind of cooperative to further someones business idea(s), and see if we can, through use of joint experiance and tallent create a cooperative business empire????.
Peter,Wolf,Ianj what do you think!!!!?????.
Peter maybe this could be an exstention of this site,a seperate site altogether ,a progression if you like, that Teneric remains the "general" info, advice forum site but that those that wish to expose their idea can through the extra site and if cooperatively agreed the group will persue that idea.

the private area now has the following people in it:

If others want to join it's up to us to say yes or no - I can then manually change their permissions.
