how about closing threads that havent had any replies for xx amount of months? every so often they are all reopened - usually for dubious reasons...

It would take quite a lot of time to search through all of the posts and manually close all old ones. When old threads are revived we often delete the new posts if they are purely self serving

Like the new format - might slow down the first time posters promotiong themselves in the introduce yourself forum never to return.

I don't know phpBB at all but in vBulletin there's an admin option to automatically close threads that are x months old.

I just had a quick look in Google and there does seem to be such an option, but php Nuke looks quite useful too.
