It's really annoying!!!
Her three posts were just spam and were deleted within half an hour of them being posted.

Incidentally. many thanks for reporting them as that way rubbish can be deleted all the quicker.

Keeping a forum free of spam is a hard job - and this is tackled very well here.

Keep up the great work guys.

Hi,
Understanding the old spamming thing has to be quashed, and certainly your system seems effective - but do you not think that 30 posts is a lot to get your sig etc.

Wouldn't ten likely have the same-ish result?

Im not ashamed, but I like adding my links!
Very best,
Jim

That's the reason why it's 30 posts! Everyone likes having inbound links from forums - but lowering the limit to 10 would just encourage useless posts in order to get there, trust me... we even have people posting junk to try and get to 30!
Anyone who is serious about contributing to this community will soon rack up 30 posts

30 posts is not many if you are serious about contributions.

If you are using forums to get business, the best way is to provide good advice to questions people ask.

Then folks think "wow, that's excellent advice, let me check out his/ her website"

This is the best way to get business. It's working for many on this forum

You do not need advertise your wares for people to check you out....

Just use your common sense...
Spam is classified as an unsolicted message or advertisement - so basically if you post something in any other forum than the "buy, sell & trade" forum that is an advertisement then it will be removed...
The acception to this is when the advertisement is solicited - i.e someone ask's for prices or for someone who is able to offer a product / service and you answer their post with your offer...

May I say that I totally agree with your efforts to combat spam and other forms of blatent self-promotion, I employ similar rules on my own sites.

However, I would like to ask a question so as not to fall foul of the rules...

Would it be permitted to offer Teneric members the opportunity to submit their sites to my links section? The site in question is based around a forum which covers parenting with a bias towards the larger families. It's a free membership, non-profit, support site and any relevant parenting/family related links would be welcomed. Ideally I would like a reciprocal link but it's not essential. By all means check the site out in order to assess suitability ie. not a commercial venture.

Cheers.
