new rules - 05-01-2006, 04:18 PM

We have been getting PM spamming recently, so there are new rules in place.

On joining - new user - no sig, no PM functionality

After 10 posts/ 15 days - you get to use PMs (note, posts made in "welcome" or "offers" section do not count towards post total)

After 30 posts/ 30 days - you get full functionality of the forum

Sorry to all, but PM spamming just wastes everyone's time

Yeah, it's a real problem - on vbulletin's I run I installed a script on each to automatically disallow members with less than 15 posts from PM'ing or posting a link.

Seems to work, especially against those "Free ipod!" thread starters.

Don't suppose you'd mind sharing the script?

I think this is the plug-in you're looking for:

One thing to watch - smilies are treated as a link, too. I must remember to update that vb phrase...

I've lowered the post count to 20 but left the 30 day rule in place

It's a pity that you can't have an automatic anti Bo**ocks detector during the pre 30 post, 30 days period.

There is a great difference between posting "I agree with that" or similar and posting a really useful reply that adds value to the forum.

We do try and delete posts with no real value - especially those who posts multiple uselessness in order to increase their post count (we know who you are ) BUT it is a fine line between deleting useless posts and laying down the law to an extent that nobody comes back!
