Question Do you consider XcellenceIT to be a properly chosen name? - 02-05-2007, 09:07 AM

We, at XcellenceIT, have a different dilemma now.

Do you think that having chosen XcellenceIT as a brand name for a web design company is correct?

We want to suggest with the name the fact that we do a great job, and we're in the business of IT. OK, the reason for choosing the name also had something to do with the fact that the domain was available.

I was wondering if you think that we succeeded in creating a right kind of atmosphere withe the web site's name.

So, what's your opinion on XcellenceIT name?

Any input will be highly appreciated.

I think the "X" thing is a little dated these days.

The name could work but the site gives the opposite impression - it takes 3 clicks just to get to the homepage which despite being the HTML version contains 2 swf files and it uses frames and tells me I should be using a specific browser.

And also (most confusingly) tells us that XcellenceIT is now cratima. If you are now cratima why are worried about the XcellenceIT name?

We now use both Cratima and XcellenceIT and for the Romanian market will only emphasise Cratima.

But for the external market we will use more of XcellenceIT's web site.

So for the future, we need to know if XcellenceIT is a good name or not ...

Not really no. As Eagle suggests it's a bit dated and since URLs are in lower case the all I'll see is xcellenceit which means nohting

Hi

When I first saw the name I thought your business would be something to do with hardware or systems support, as in IT.

I think you need a name that conveys Design and Media.

Also, I don't think your strap-line scans very well. Maybe that's a translation issue.

Hope that helps

Did you buy a template, or get your inspiration, from TemplateMonster? I've see a few other sites which look similar.

Also, the xcellenceit name sounds a bit 'techie' to me. If I'm going to commission a website design, then it is the DESIGN part which is most important to me.

Every other person can code html and php, but not everyone has a good grasp of fundamental design concepts and what makes a site stand out.

I would be more likely to use a company called xcellenceDesign to be honest...

Nick

Hey Nick,

The web site has a few years in behind I can't tell you what the designers thought when they've made it.

I don't think it's a template bought from TemplateMonster.com, though. I think there are a lot of similar web sites over the Internet, it's not that easy being original.

Anyhow, I love your thoughts on xcellencedesign and I'll start a debate on the name.

Thank you.
