New design for my website - 15-05-2007, 10:28 PM

Hi all,

I've posted my site, www.workersfromhome.co.uk on this site before, but it's just undergone a revamp. I've listened to my visitors who said the old design was too dark and the font too small.

Comments on the new design please?

Font is still way to small.

The amazon affiliate ads are for amazon.com not amazon.co.uk - I get prices in dollars.

Note: in your 11/05/07 post you have links to some truly appalling sites and one of the links doesn't work. Don't know who Michael Collinson is but they have broken links on their site and are using a dwt - which doesn't bode well for their design skills.

I have read many of the blog posts and haven't really seen anything I felt was original - the writing styles are different between posts which gives it a cut-and-paste feel.

Sorry to be a bit negative - it's been a long day.

Whoah, that certainly is a negative view you have! What resolution are you viewing the site in? My 1280x1024 is perfect, font size wise.

Anything positive about the site? Would love other's "constructive" criticism.

It's a wide screen - 1260px wide. I did a lot of research during the redesign of my own site into accesibility and font sizes. I've still got a few tweaks to make but the overall impression from all the sources I used was that absolute font sizes should be avoided. Many theorists advise that 10px is too small (12px minimum) and you should really use %/em combinations to allow for proportional resizing.

Useful Resources:

http://www.gunlaug.no/contents/wd_1_03_04.html

If you feel you really want to keep the 10px font-size try narrowing the main content and increasing the line height. If you have too many charcters per line with a small font size it becomes difficult to read (which is why newspapers are written in columns):

Feeling much more positive this morning. The site does look good, a nice colour scheme from wordpress. It is however a little disconcerting to lose the main navigation when I go to each article. And a visitor landing on the article page will no doubt be disorientated when the usual suspects are not where they expect them to be.

A few useful articles on setting up a business legal aspects, registering a small business etc help promote your services.
