Overhaul - 13-04-2005, 02:39 PM

I have just done a bit of an over-haul of my site (mainly sorting out the visuals, getting a bit more continuity, new navigation menu, mistakes/errors, etc) and was wondering if people could take a look for me to check it out on different browsers, screen sizes, etc and let me know about any problems they find?

Thanks!

Tested: Win XP SP2.

Window set at 800x600

IE4 ok
IE5 ok
IE6 ok
Opera7 ok
Firefox ok

IE3, NS3 in both cases the page has a large gap at the top, PM me if you want screen grabs of these (only a very few people still use them, of course).

Aside from that, the background is horrible. Sorry.

Don't apologise - everyone has their own opinion, and I respect yours and everyone elses. Are you talking about the disco lights background? Because, funnily enough, that's the one thing most people have said they love. If you are talking about the yellow star background, then, yes, I think that will be the next thing to go!

Thanks for taking time out to check.

This is the one I don't like. http://www.corabar.co.uk/backgroundlights.jpg

I just found it glaring and garish, but then when has disco lighting ever been tastefully restrained!

If your customers like it, then I would keep it and ignore my opinion.

Hi Phil,
Thanks for taking a look!

I have noticed I cannot scroll down the page, I tried resizing the page to make it really small and the scrolling bar did not appear. Even with the roller on the mouse I could not scroll.
I presume you are talking about the home (index) page and not any of the others? This was deliberate - there is nothing for the 'general public' below the main box, but .... doesn't it all show on your screen? This was one of the main reasons I wanted people to try it out on different sized screens, etc.

Yes, the scroll out navigation bar is Javascript, but I haven't got that on the home page. The Home Page is just a table - I know that these are images, rather than straight text, but, so far, I haven't had a problem with all pages being spidered and indexed - but it is something I am aware of and will probably get around to doing something about it on the next overhaul. Thanks for the tip about the 'site map'.

Hi Angela

Just had a look at your site using IE6. Was looking at the 'cost examples' page and the site map on the left hand side was jumping up and down like mad. Seems OK now though so I don't know if this is a glitch at your end or mine.

OK just noticed that if you try and scroll down the page using the down arrows then the site map bar starts jumping.

Regards

Joy

Oh *@?/(%*!!! (Or words to that effect!)

Not sure what is going wrong with it - it's not doing it all the time, and it stops as soon as you move again on the page. That one is going to take some time to work out and sort out.
Thanks for the tip off, Joy!

Well in my opinion the background should be plain and soft colour, it should not destruct reader as well as some aye catching animations. Information about your business or services you offer is first.

It seems your site is presentation of advance programming and could drive away real customers.

Being simple, easy to navigate and fast are the core to a good website. It is not what you like, but what customer need is important.

Hi City.com

Just took a look at your site, you have a load of broken links off your jobs page.

Also, I hope you won't mind my saying, it might be worth your while to get someone to review your copy.
