I understood you perfectly. And I agree that blogging can be a very fruitlfull exercise (I do it myself). But not in this case. There is no point in writing a blog to drive visitors to the site unless the site itself has useful information on it. Have you looked at Suresh's website?

I think we are 99% in agreement, it's just the applicability of a blog to this project that I question.

As to the time it takes to write a blog post or an article. I'm researching material at the moment on the 'stickyness' of a website, I have a load of research material that I'm trying to whittle down into about 500 words, it's this that takes the time. And I usually have at least two re-writes before publishing. sure I could knock up a quick bit of link bait but I prefer to give me readers something meaty to chew over rather than a soundbite.

There are some very interesting articles around at the moment on the longevity of a blog - and it seems that those with longer more thoughtful articles stay around longer and attract a better class of comment. The blog that lives by itself and is not just a feed to another site will rank higher and be more respected.

Effective Web Design - It's not that difficult if you follow the rules.

You have to weigh you opportunity costs. Measuring time spent on an application vs. the result. Unfortunately, Google doesn't send much quality hits even after somebody splits a finger nail in the process!! There are many reasons for this and for the frustration that follows it.

I've found sporatic linking a better alternative for getting hits! And let me tell you that developing a following is good but really really hard. You can buy a forty dollar ebook that claims to help you, but I havn't found a good one yet!

See Google help pages for more.

Although it really takes time to create a quality and interesting content for your article, I think it's worth the effort. Once you have published your article on your blog, this will not just help your site increase its traffic but also provide your site with quality backlinks if you use your targeted keywords as your anchor text in your content.

Another one, if your article on your blog is found useful and interesting by other sites that are collecting articles related to their contents, there are possibilities that they will republish your article. Through this way, you can also get natural inbound links.

Each have their niche but the key to all of them is to make the article or post interesting and informative and add value to the reader. My suggestion therefore was to spend time building up the site rather than concentrating on a blog which may or may not attract visitors. Not saying a blogs are bad, just that it's not the right way to go in this instance.

Fisicx does a much better review than myself, I tend to take a quick snapshot and relay my opinion, sometimes it is a very quick look.

In this case, this holds true. I guess that I am not much different than the masses of surfering folks whose interests are momentary at best unless there are good immediate feelings. (or needs)

This site wasn't on my list for staring.

Finvik might have good advice, if you start with a thousand keywords and then systematically figure which are the real source of dependable hits.

I really hate the whole process, as simple as it might seem, but don't worry that you are seriously distracted from you real business goals when you begin to do that. Just go without sleep - like I do.
