i get a message on almost every page saying

' this page uses fonts that need to be temp installed....' etc

and prompts to download

so whatever font you have used - i havent got on my pc and i am not installing the font pack.

So you must make sure that the site uses acceptable fonts that 99.9% of people have on their pc's.

Sorry about that. I left some stuff in the CSS when we were experimenting with using WEF. I have now removed it so the problem should have gone away. Thanks for spotting that.

site appears to be written in frames. this is not good as search engines cannot probably index sites in frames.

Hi squalid

I tried to write the site using CSS for positioning but it did not work properly. The title bar just started again everytime a new page was loaded. The menu jumped about all over the place.

What do you think I should do next?

You have answered your first point yourself. Each time a new page loads all the images reload as well - which means the animation will start over each time.

However you have approached your site design from the wrong end. You have built a layout and tried to make the content fit.

What you should have done is begin with the header and logo, then a navigation list then the rest of the page finishing up with the footer. Once you had the structure in place you could then have added divs to each section (only need 4) and styled each bit.

My tip for the day therefore is to start again with a stuctured document and then add the CSS.

Though you have some minor details to work out. The design is very clean and I like the fact that it doesn't overbear the content, which is really what is showcased. I would move his profile to the top and some of the images aren't quite as crisp as they could be.

Thanks for your help guys. I am going away to redesign the site and use CSS instead. Will sharpen up the images and get back to you soon. This may take a few days as I can only do this part time.

Forget 're-designing' the site.

Build structured documents, put all the links in, add the images, review the site using the 'Opera' accessibility modes and make sure everything works and loads properly. Make sure there are alternatives for those without or who do wish to use flash, think about you keywords, titles, headers, alt text, anchor text, footer links, sign-off statment. Optimise images and check the download time on dial-up and a PDA.

When you have done all this, you can begin to play with CSS to acheive the layout you want.

I think its a decent try. I'd lose the fames though. just put the picture in a normal webpage. perhaps add some more graphics to it.
