I know that this is a review forum, but I am researching some 'modules' to offer clients as bolt-ons to websites.

These would be priced indivdually and aimed at clients that want a mainly static site, but with a few user-editable sectons, such as newsfeeds, media centres, image gallerys etc. Bascially areas where the client can manage the content.

I am posting here to ask:

Forgetting full content management for a second - if you could add a little specifc 'bolt-on' functionaility to your site, what would it be?

A newsletter management tool.

Thanks.
Expanding on this slightly, do you think that this should encompass the ability to have a 'sign up for my newsletter' section on a site - so that when people subscribe, their email addresses are held on the server and via a secure browser-based log in the site owner could then construct a basic HTML newsletter and automatically mail it to the people held on this list?

I think that would be a handy feature, and if these addresses could also be dumped into a ready made tool at a later stage then that we be even better.

I agree - this is a useful feature. Sometimes for clients I've set this up and then set them up with an account with someone like www.constantcontact.com to get them up and running with newsletter creation.
