I think the font is way too big - it looks amateurish

why not have a regular font size (12px/ 10pt) but have a link on your page to set the font bigger and that just changes the css file ?

I've got a page that's number one on google with a PR of 4. No great shakes, you can get that with one good inbound link. PR is important if you think it is important. Building a site that attracts the attention of other popular sites will help build your ranking. PR is simply a measure of the number and quality of your internal and external links and is only one of the measures google uses to determine the importance of a page - note page not website.

But I digress. Had a a bit of a rethink and offer this up as a suggetion.

As to the font size Peter, It is set to the browser default (1em). Try viewing the page on a 17" monitor with a screen resolution of 1280 to see how it looks (25% of users have this setting). Setting font to pixel sizes remove the text sizing option in IE and I want to keep the site as accessible as possible. however, I'll have a play with a slightly smaller base font size and see how it look on a larger screen.

Keep 'em coming - it's making me think.

Graham

I liked the font-size. Good for my weak eyesight without glasses.
Maybe that was my browser default (12px verdana), but I liked the opportunity to read the site without hustle.

You know, I was wondering what happens when I don't specify font in pixels at all. You think that browser defaults are always right?

Font sizes are a real pain. Each browser does it own thing and IE can't even remain consistent across the various versions.

This is an excellent comparison article: www.thenoodleincident.com.

And if you want experiment yourself this is a fun tool: typetester.maratz.com.

Sure, font sizes are a problem - but relative sizes offer the most flexibility.
If font size on body is set to e.g., 100% (or 1em) it will take the browser default. Then set H1 tags to , say, 120%, H2 to 110% etc., or whatever the user has option of increasing/decreasing the fontsize in their display. As more brosers become (Hopefully!) more compliant this should work.
